There’s been a plethora of religious sites touting the end of the world is near. Call it The Book Of Revelation, the Sign Of The Beast or whatever “they” want to name it, but to these shout-outs, the Rapture is coming and will scoop all those who have been good and the rest of us are going to die and burn eternally in hell.
We’re in the middle of a pandemic folks. And with a pandemic comes death, food shortages, job loss and many more calamities. Our government, messed up as it already is, is trying to do all that they can to make this horrific life episode as bearable as possible. But hey! They’re only human too, as are we.
I do believe the coronavirus, however, is a message from God, the powers that be or some supreme spirit. The virus is a wake up call for us humans to get our acts together, respect the earth, have compassion for one another and modify our behaviors. That I do believe. Do I believe the earth is coming to an end? A resounding NO! How can I be so sure? I haven’t fully read the Bible’s Book Of Revelation but I do know this: if the world didn’t come to an end during/after the Holocaust, when millions and millions of ‘God’s Chosen People’ were almost literally wiped off the face of our planet, then no end is coming any time soon, now or forever!
We humans have brains. We can invent/discover, solve our problems. It may take a while but we will cure this coronavirus. And any more that may come our way. Look at how we cured polio, smallpox and malaria to name a few. See the list below.
- Poliomyelitis (polio)
- Lymphatic filariasis.
Our medical professionals have been clear: wear a mask, practice social distancing, wash your hands often, stay home as much as possible, use hand sanitizer. The solution for us is very tolerable. But what have we humans done? We’re still partying, hanging out in crowds, in droves, refusing to wear masks, demonstrating, burning buildings, fighting with each other, the police, those in authority, still insisting that no one is going to tell us what to do nor interfere with our ‘freedoms’. We’re killing each other instead of accepting and realizing we are smack dab in the middle of a problem. We need to hunker down, band together and do whatever it is we have to do. Going out to a restaurant ain’t one of them. Attending concerts, sports events or movie theaters really isn’t a priority and should not be on the top of our list.
What’s important to all of us right now? Securing a place to live, putting food on our tables, getting rid of debt, making our lives more affordable, taking care of our ‘four walls’. We need to keep working and helping our economy run. However we can. Getting our nails or toe nails done isn’t a priority. Neither is topping off at some bar for a bit of the bubbly. If these businesses have to close then so be it. Owners should take the losses and move onto something more amenable, if possible.
We need to take care of our children and if that means they have to stay home for another year, then so be it. Trust me. Kids today won’t suffer as much harm from staying home and video education than contracting the virus and dying or becoming seriously ill for the rest of their young lives!
If ever there was a time to embrace and master frugal living, this is it! We need to downsize. Live in smaller patterns. We need to lower our expenses, especially our housing costs. We need to live below our means, we need to have savings, do more DIY, drive less expensive cars, stop shopping mindlessly, prepare our own meals, learn to cook and stock up. We’re going to face the possibility of a very long, hard winter. Are you ready? Are you prepared? Yes, we may face food shortages and outages as more and more human beings contract this virus and either die or can not work for a period of time.
Have you slowly prepared for this time? Please no hoarding. Think of others. But each and every week you should purchase a little something extra to put aside for a ‘rainy day’. Ditto for your debt. Is it possible to stop using credit and try as you might to bring whatever debt balances you have down a bit? This is NO time to be consumed in consumer debt. If so, then be prepared to file for bankruptcy should the need arise.
With all the shutdowns, we humans have been forced to visit our beautiful national/state parks and hiking trails for exercise and amusement. How have we humans responded to what should be an enjoyable and treasured experience? We have left mountains of trash, human feces and complete destruction. What is wrong with us? How can we do this to ourselves and to our fellow human beings? (click here)
We all need to stop what we are doing, take a deep breath, face whatever reality is facing us right now and deal with it! If that means we have to make (dare I say it?) SACRIFICES, then so be it! Make them! We have a small window of time before this pandemic makes its jump to the next step. The rumors of a second wave might not just be rumors. There may be more reality coming our way.
“But how can I do this“, you might ask? “I’m hitting rock bottom with no end in sight?” There is this one thing you can do, and it’s free! You can hope. Hope is a powerful blessing. Hope is what propels us humans to keep on trying and when we do, we try harder. We need to believe that there is a rainbow at the end of this tunnel. There is and we need to believe we can get there with our efforts.
We need to believe there is a being above us who is more powerful than what we humans could ever experience. We need to believe there is a supreme spirit in charge, who is looking out for us and will take care of us. He/she will make sure that we have what we need, now and in the future. Extreme spiritual power will be with us every step of the way. Extreme spirit will never abandon us. Extreme spirit will never fail us.
Respect yourself. And please, respect the lands around us. It’s all we have left.
