When I got my extra freezer, I was supposed to make a freezer list of the contents held within. Needless to say I didn’t. Now, however, since we’ve been eating out of the freezer, it’s contents are down and I am able to finally make that list (before heading out and stocking it once again). Imagine my surprise when I found a hidden eye round roast (beef) stuck in the back of a bottom shelf. Hubs and I have been on a losing battle of trying to eat more vegan, plant-based foods and we’ve been failing terribly. Let’s face it: we’ve been eating a Mediterranean Diet for decades and it looks like we’re not going to stop any time soon. But it was nice trying something new and different. Plus, I did learn a few inventive vegetarian recipes.
Now, back to that beef. Hubby has a friend who owns a farm that once a year turns one of their cows into meals. Hubby ordered a few steaks and as noted, we forgot he also ordered a 3 pound eye round roast. Needless to say, after weeks of pathetic plant-based meals, we were overjoyed at the thought of rustling up a roast beef dinner with mashed potatoes and gravy on a blistery cold February afternoon!
In a word: amazing. The roast was like ‘butter’. It had just the perfect level of fat around it to make the beef cook evenly and tender. It was so good we had roast beef sandwiches the next day for breakfast and lunch. I was in heaven having mashed potatoes with home made gravy and small canned peas. Hubby called his friend and ordered two more roasts. For the freezer. Now included on my updated list!

Side note: a person from the UK posted the price she was paying for a fresh turkey breast ($41.35) on Twitter (product of the United States). She had posted it to show her mother but it went viral. Here it is. FYI, what happens in England, sometimes happens here. Stock up folks. Whilst ye can.

Hi Cindi, Looks so Yummy! I think I will add a hormone steroid free beef roast to my next Whole Foods order. I miss them too. Lara

The cow was raised up here, free from all the crap most beef producers pump into their cattle for profit. It is a blessing we can get such farm to table wonders.

Lucky you. But I remember you blogged it was very expensive like Whole Foods prices. Lara

Lara, in retrospect, now that we’ve eaten the roast…..it was worth every penny. Whatever it was. I wish I could get a photo inside this comment. Someone from the UK posted what she paid for a fresh turkey breast. It was $41. Maybe I’ll go back and post the photo at the bottom of this post. Yup, that’s what I’ll do. Plan on prices like the UK to hit here in the US.

I looked for a turkey at Whole Foods and they only had a fresh boneless turkey breast with skin for $6.99 pound! No turkey at Aldi’s Lara

Aldi only has turkeys once or twice a year. I usually stock up then. The price you got at Whole Foods is a good one. Aldi’s is about the same. They come in handy every once in a while. Did you see how much they have to pay for an American turkey breast in Great Britain? Woowzer!

I am doing another huge Aldi’s order and they had no turkey either. So I called Market 32 and they have Shady Brook and Empire frozen turkeys. So I then checked Stop N Shop and they have their brand on sale for 89cents a pound so I got two for pickup tomorrow. After I get my Aldi’s order I May order a third if I have room in my freezer.

I’m thinking of going back to Stop N Shop. Now that I’ve gotten my vaccine, it shouldn’t be a problem. I have a hankering for those turkey breasts too. Who knew? LOL!

I did a check on everything including spices and decided to go big besides needing more fresh cruciferous vegetables for Brussels sprouts chips and roasting, and cauliflower rice. We have snow for five days in next weeks forecast which I think made me want more in the house. Besides some of the news today about storms interrupting food delivery. Lara

I tried to order a third turkey and there is a limit of two. I prefer doing pickup still for safety reasons. It’s a $1.99 charge at my Stop and Shop. You show your idea with your window closed and they place it in the trunk. Lara

So I picked up at StopN Shop for the first time this morning at 10:30 am and their pickup fee has gone up to $2.95. But unlike PeaPod I received my entire order at sale prices which the S&S pasta prices were cheaper then Aldi’s so we’re Duncan Hines cake mixes both at 88cents.
Stop N Shop pickup had designated parking spaces and it operates just with calling a dedicated phone number and telling them your parking space and your name. Only problem is people are parking in the spaces that don’t have pickup orders since they are right next to the handicapped parking. It maybe because the parking lot was super full. I can’t imagine that they were able to be six feet apart in the store. Sincerely Lara

I think I’m heading over to Stop N Shop this week, depending on the snow. When I used their online service for curbside pickup, the software wouldn’t recognize the canned tomato sale. You had to go inside to customer service and show them your card. Don’t know what that is all about.
I’ve found that by going early, usually opening time, the crowd is low and the store has just been cleaned, so perhaps a bit more safe.
I’ve been hearing a lot of good things (prices) about Stop N Shop, so I’m going to check it out again.
Thanks for the update.
