Whether we want to admit it or not, our lives will never be returning to the way we were, before this pandemic. With the increase in infections erupting from the Delta Variant, it is apparent to me that we are all going to be under the guise of the coronavirus for a very long time. Each day brings a new threat to our lives. We can turn off the news or refuse to believe what horrors we may be facing but the reality is our lives will never be the same. Yet, we keep forcing ourselves to get back to ‘normal’. Whatever that means.
There is no normal.
We have to learn how to live again in this brave new world. It looks like masks are going to be a permanent thing. Especially in crowds. Personally, IMHO, I think they made a big mistake cancelling the mask wearing mandate in the first place. This virus is looking for new hosts and like fools, we gave the virus those hosts. It came in the package of the un-vaccinated and children under the age of 12 who can not be vaccinated. Click here for that info.
As of July 8, more than 4 million children had been diagnosed with Covid-19, representing 14.2 percent of all cases, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics. More than 31,000 new cases were reported in the week of June 24 to July 8, the association reported.
At least 335 children, ages 17 and younger, have died from Covid-19, according to the latest data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, although serious complications in kids remain extremely rare. But increasing cases among children, including severe ones, are expected as the delta variant spreads and with no Covid vaccine authorized for children under the age of 12.
I don’t listen to American news broadcasts. They’re all biased as far as I am concerned. Instead, I listen to the BBC News on PBS each evening (click here). The Brits have no axe to grind with America, so much of their news about us is straightforward. It’s good to know what is happening all around the world because it gives us an accurate perspective. Another good European News Broadcast, also on PBS is DW World News (click here for the info). Again, it’s good to get the American perspective from the European side. America isn’t discussing the rise in the coronavirus in children under the age of 12 but Europe is. That’s why again, despite what our advisors say, we all need to wear a mask when out in public. Especially our young children.
Can you imagine being a child today and growing up in the midst of this pandemic?
Our lives will never return to the way we were. That’s an impossible premise. We need to face our new reality and deal with it. In our rush to get back to what we perceived to be our normal, we may have done more damage to ourselves than what was necessary. I’ve cancelled all my summer plans as well as fall and winter plans. I don’t see wintering in Florida anymore. Not for many more years to come. Hubby and I were going to RV at a beach this summer but threats of the Delta Variant changed our plans. Jeopardizing our lives, just to be at some beach, wasn’t worth the risk. We have everything we need right here, at home. I don’t believe in the CDC anymore nor do I believe in anything some politician tells me. Hubby and I both came to the conclusion that there’s no place like home and we’re going to stay put. At least I know we will be safe. We’re almost totally self-contained.
Our previous lives are only just a memory. A memory of The Way We Were (this Barbra Streisand song now has a new meaning) No longer about romance and a lost love, it is a song about a lost life, with only pictures to remind us of the way we were.
