It’s true. A wave struck me down. My hat fell off my head and as I went to catch it in the surf I fell again. This time I couldn’t get up. I had one knee raised but I didn’t have the strength to lift myself up. If I weren’t so pathetic I would have laughed but I instantly felt the danger I was in. My age is catching up to me and its not funny.

We think we have all the time in the world to do what we want to do and I’m realizing, we don’t. Thankfully my husband appeared and I was able to get his attention. He reached out to me and was able to lift me to safety. If not, I would have had to wait for a passer-by to help me. Not a good position to be in.
live your age. Face up to the reality. The time to do something is now. Not later.
Wow We went camping in Cape Charles, VA at a newly open state park in 1981. I remember the ocean undertow. I was taught a few years back when you can’t get up in deeper water, gracefully expand forward and get in a position to float on your belly with the waves coming into shore getting as close to the shore as possible and then attempt getting up with less undertow to fight with. Like a beach whale! Works especially well when on an angle. Sincerely, Lara

Lara, let’s not have images of beach whales. Lol. I was on the shoreline. With sand going up the wazoo. I just couldn’t stand up. Ugh. They have warnings posted not to swim alone. Now I understand why. Need a buddy system.

You are so right on age having an impact on what we can do easily. Getting ready for Henre was exhausting, and took time away from working on my kitchen cabinets. Luckily it was downgraded to a tropical storm and the wind in my area only sprinkled a few leaves on my lawn. One more day of rain and then another heat wave. Sincerely, Lara

Waves are strong! No matter how old you are, you could have a hard time getting up. We recently went to Destin, where there were riptides, and weren’t allowed in, even up to our ankles. Apparently several (young) people drowned the week before. Yikes!
In the meantime, leg exercises may be in order! 🙂 xoxoxoxox

I just met two other people who fell in the surf and couldn’t get up. They’re younger. Whew!
