One of the great benefits of living amongst the mountains is that there’s always a ski resort not to far from wherever I am. My SIL expressed his interest this year in taking my granddaughter skiing but he didn’t know where. I live within two (possibly three) ski resorts and when I told my SIL about them, he picked the one most closest to my home. At only a half hour drive away, there’s a medium sized mountain and ski resort just perfect for my young granddaughter to start out on.

It’s called The Catamount Mountain Resort (click here) and quite coincidentally they’re undergoing a $15 million dollar renovation (ski, slopes, lifts, snow tubing, lodge including resort accommodations). They should be finished by Christmas. Hubby and I took a ride up to check them out. The place looks good as does the surrounding small town (all decked out for the holidays!).

Catamount Mountain Resort is a four-season resort straddling the New York and Massachusetts border just about 2.5 hours from NYC. With its sister resort, Berkshire East, Catamount is one fun mountain with some of the best steeps in southern New England AND some of the best beginner and intermediate terrain. Catamount has undergone a stunning transformation since the summer of 2018. A new lift, new lodge, hundreds of new snow making machines, four snow making ponds, miles of pipe, and countless other upgrades make Catamount one of the best small ski areas on the East coast!

And here are some photos of the quaint little town just outside the resort:

Looks like we are going to have a mighty fine winter bunch of fun….just perfect for the whole family. Hubby and I are looking forward to snow tubing as well as some snow mobiling. The kids can ski while we sit back and have a freshly milled apple cider with a dash of some local bourbon! Just place me by the open fire and I’m good to go (nowhere)!
