Back in the 1980s my family (husband, two kids and I) would make the 1.5 hour car trek ‘up the island’ (nick name for traveling up Long Island peninsula, which is where we lived) and shop twice per year at Shop Rite’s bi-annual Can-Can sale. Click here for more info. Every six months (January and July) the supermarket chain (located in the northeast) would discount every single canned good item to more than 50% to 75% off. We made it into a bi-annual fun family event. The kids had a blast buying all the canned treats they could enjoy for the next six months. Stuff like fruit juices, tuna fish, peanut butter, canned fruits and vegetables, snacks and treats to fill up their lunch buckets and dinner plates.
I’m happy to say that our family tradition of over forty years is still going strong today as it did back in the late 1980s. In fact, thanks in part to our current horrific inflationary times, we are even more committed to the Shop Rite Can-Can sale than ever. Especially now since the supermarket chain modernized and offers digital coupons for even more savings. We currently live only 12 miles away from our local Shop-Rite, so driving there is a breeze. If you do live within a two hour car ride, I still would highly recommend you get thee to a Shop Rite and stock up. The savings are terrific! The sale usually runs for 2 to 3 weeks. We will be going each week of the current can-can sale and stock up on whatever canned item is heavily discounted. This week we stocked up on the following items:

You got some really low prices. Good job. I was able to download a digital coupon for some extra money off the soups. We bought 20 cans of assorted Progresso soups at $1 each. They make a great healthy lunch. Happy eating!

Hi Cindi, I started in 2000 shopping ShopRite can can sale when a new super store was open 11 miles away. This year in mid December they sent a gift. $20 on a $100 pickup or delivery order using the promo code WINTER20 good till January 15. Their online promotions on pickup or delivery buying gave me another $30off. Resides the digital coupons. The promotions running now end January 8 th. The final receipt was $103 and $298 saved. I got next week add and Folgers is 2/$3 instead of Chockful of nuts, and All of the items except Jimmy Dean bacon are still on sale. Did you get the half price tri-color quinoa, Carolina brown and jasmine rice mix, too? There are some other bargains Pillsbury brownie mixes 3/$1.77 beating Aldi’s brownies prices. My cupboards and pantry shelves are totally restocked this week and my freezer and refrigerator filled. I can easily make over 300 meals from my larder! My grandson tested positive last Tuesday and I saw him Monday both masked but I still quarantined for 9 days and masked picking up the groceries. All the rest of the family tested negative I am waiting for my PCR results now taking six days ! No appointments for rapid test anywhere in my country setting with in 30 miles. The first time I went for a walk-in PCR test I waited in my car for three hours and they ran out of swabs! So the Urgent Care center gave me an official appointment for two days later! Crazy!
Sincerely, Lara

I think I’m going back for more soups. Getting the Folgers coffee also. The canned beans and veggies I already have tons of. Aldi’s makes a really delish brownie mix so I don’t think I will change that. People think I made the brownies from scratch. That’s how good they are. Hubby picked up some more Ronzoni today. We have enough rice to feed China. LOL.
I’m sorry to hear about your grandson. My daughter has a bunch of home tests which she used on Nick and I. We tested negative. No reason for us to test any more. We basically stay home and go nowhere anymore. I bought the new N95 masks so I think we’re good for now. Please stay safe AND healthy woman!!!

Getting much more snow here than was predicted Five inches and snowing heavy for another hour! Are you getting a lot, too? I have one more vitamin to get next week with the half price sale and digital coupon and I am stocked for the year. Ice storm on Wednesday and this snow storm today the parking lot at ShopRite was totally filled. About a third of the customers were not masked going in and out. Carts filled high coming out! I was never more happy to have done a pickup order and avoid contact! My son and daughter gave me the new 9th generation IPAD with pencil and special case and a new Fire Stick TV for Christmas. I am enjoying them both as I hibernate. This omicron aria t makes everyone a possible carrier with asymptomatic symptoms. Sincerely Lara

Our friend called us early on Sunday morning, which is the first day of the sale, to tell us the parking lot was full and the store was crowded. he told us to come at 10AM because that’s when most people attend church services and the crowd is less. Sure enough, our friend was right. We breezed right in and right out. I don’t look at people so much. I’m too busy. All I know is that I’m wearing a new N95 mask and constantly washing my hands or sterilizing them.
We had a Fire stick for years but very rarely used it. Too clumsy and too slow. We switched to ROKU and boy! What a difference. ROKU is amazing and has lots of free stuff. We’ve been enjoying Yellowstone and it’s spinoff 1883 (?). Lots of good content! We got around 3 to 4 inches but its melting now.

Eight Days since I took a PCR test and the lab the urgent care uses QDx has still not assigned a specimen number to look up the results and then they state it will take another four days to have the results. This is crazy! At least 12 days till results- the rest of my family got results in 1-3 days. This is longer then required quarantine for anyone! At this point the only relevance is I will no if I had it so can I get Omicron again? Or am I immune to DeltaCron? Sincerely , Lara

“they” say if you get Omicron, you’re immune to almost everything, such as the Delta variant and perhaps any other variant that might pop up. Hope you get your results soon. stay strong!!

What a great sale! I would be storing those cans under my bed if I found one like that here!
We are presently experiencing a surge of Covid again and it makes me thankful for my stocked pantry. I don’t want to be in stores. My grandson tested positive yesterday and I’ve spent this past week at their house caring for my granddaughter, so we’ll see if those vaccines and booster I took do their job. So far, so good.I personally know 14 people who’ve had the virus in the past two weeks. Thankfully, this variant seems to have mild symptoms and none of them have needed much medical care, as our hospitals are filling up quickly here.
Take care and stay well!

Hi Glenda. So sorry to hear about your grandson. One of the main reasons why I got so many soups is strictly because should we get sick, it’s easy to warm up the soup in our microwave. Less energy taken. Hope it doesn’t have a need to. Thanks for sharing and for your comment. Be well!!!!

Wow! We don’t have a ShopRite in our area, but those are amazing deals! Even if we did, I haven’t been grocery shopping for 8 weeks now. Foot is a slow heal, so I’ve been sending hubby out for a few items at a time, or I order on Instacart (which I HATE). I really miss picking items out myself.
