I’m certain most of us know that America has been on decline for quite some time. If I hear another politician chant that America was or is coming back, I think I’ll barf. The worst part is that the fear of crime has risen so much in almost all of the 50 United States Of America, that we rarely pay attention to it anymore. For months, probably years, many of us had to witness the endless city riots, drive-by shootings, subway-pushings, crash and steal break-ins of top luxury retail stores (as well as pharmacies and candy stores) while our police, district attorneys and local politicians stood by, voiced some barely audible lip service but technically they did nothing to change the continual decline of American life.

Oscar viewers and the world for that matter, watched, yet once again, as Americans’ lack of respect for authority, etiquette, values and traditions come all together in one swift slap heard round the globe. The moment the sound of Will Smith’s right hand, as it whipped across the upper left cheek of Chris Rock resonated in an audience’s ear, America reached its lowest point of all time. America could not go any lower than what it had just succumbed to.

There was Chris Rock, a world famous comedian dating back to the dugout pits of (Saturday Night Live) SNL, who rose to current multi-millionaire fame and status take a slap from also, world renown, famous actor and multi-millionaire, Will Smith, simply because Rock dissed Smith’s wife’s hair. That sound was what we always knew America had succumbed to recently: a violent country where no matter the rules or the laws, we all just can’t get along. Period. No matter our status, level of income or education etc, if someone disses or disrespects us, we’re reducing ourselves to the sub level snakes we used to be in The Garden Of Eden.

Americans are out of control.

Will Smith did a bad, bad thing.” bellowed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (click here). “Slapping Chris Rock was also a blow to men, women, the entertainment industry, and the Black community. With a single petulant blow, he advocated violence, diminished women, insulted the entertainment industry, and perpetuated stereotypes about the Black community.”

“The Black community also takes a direct hit from Smith. One of the main talking points from those supporting the systemic racism in America is characterizing Blacks as more prone to violence and less able to control their emotions. Smith just gave comfort to the enemy by providing them with the perfect optics they were dreaming of. Fox News host Jeanine Pirro wasted no time going full-metal jacket racist by declaring the Oscars are “not the hood.””

Everybody and anybody can apologize all they want to. It’s too late. The damage has already been done. And it doesn’t seem like anyone is wonton to forget what just happened. America sunk to the lowest of the low. Any shred of respect, eloquence and anything Devine has permanently left America and its never coming back. No political chant, peaceful demonstration or divine group prayer will ever bring it back. All of us are at the edge of our seat. Anyone of us can strick out at another at any time. Whether we are waiting on line at the grocer, looking for our seat on an airplane, waiting to be helped by customer service, the delivery person, the neighbor next door, we are all ready to pounce, for whatever reason and hurt our fellow man, woman and child (even throw in the family dog).

Maybe it’s the pandemic. Maybe it was the election. Maybe it’s inflation. Maybe it’s the personal decline of our way of life, such as a simple act of getting in our car and driving to work, driving to drop the kids off at school, picking up a quart of milk and experiencing sticker shock or paying our bill slightly past due or not having enough money to rent a movie, buy a sweater, plan a vacation……whatever it is, we’ve got to recognize that almost everyone is on edge. People may say or do the wrong thing. We have to learn we’re not in this alone. It’s a global phenomenon. We have to learn to give others some slack and move along. Not later. Not in a minute. But right, right now.

Don’t be chanting eubonics such as “Keep my wife’s name out yo fucking mouth“. As Mr. Abdul-Jabbar further stated: “to do so would reinvigorate many to continue their campaign to marginalize African Americans and others through voter suppression campaign“. Looking at the rising crime rates in America as it stands today, no mind has been changed. The Great American Experiment, whereby everyone gets along in a melting pot located in The Promised Land, just failed. Chris Rock/Will Smith’s slap heard round the world, was the last nail in the coffin. America just lost 246 years of progress.
